Winged woman of flight.. the all-mother of humanity.. wise soothsayer Goddess Or hag. Her eyes burn with the wisdom of antiquity.. Her voice murmurs a truth that cannot be heard by the unreceptive masses.. She has passed through the great change and she lives on to rewrite the burned chronicles of ..Her Story. She allows each wrinkle to act as voice to proclaim and reclaim her power.

'THE CRONE'

"THE CRONE"

Crone number 5.

Sold. Thank you Sally!

Sometimes good things come in small packages. I’m referring to my new series titled “Crones.” Maybe some of you know someone who is getting up there in age. Maybe you are climbing that ladder as well. The story I have written describing the way I feel about aging kind of tells it all. I started my new series with 5, all shown below. Each comes with printed story. I hope you enjoy and want to have one of these small treasure for yourself or a gift. They take up very little space and would look lovely adorning a special nook or altar in your home.

3 BURNING BOWLS

3 BURNING BOWLS

3 Burning Bowls

I just finished 3 new burning bowls. For those of you who are not familiar with burning bowl ceremonies, Unity church has one every New Year's Eve. Members are asked to write down anything in their lives that they would like to alleviate-bad habits etc. All are placed in the bowl to be burned and thus disappear from your life forever. Or so we hope.

I decided to create individual burning bowls several years ago and they have always been a real hit. You can use them for your own personal ceremony and you don’t even have to wait for New Year’s Eve. When not in use, they can be used for incense or even burning a special candle.

Sometimes I name each one but decided it might be more fun for the recipient of each bowl to give a meaningful name. I’ve always said that things worth owning are worth naming.

Freida Storage Vessel

FREIDA STORAGE VESSEL

Freida Storage/Art Vessel

For those of you who are new to my blog, Healing Woman, welcome! Also, a grand hello to those of you who are loyal followers. The summer had me involved in various garden projects and now I am finally back, with a brand new banner to boot.

I have been prolonging summer these early fall days. I just hate to see it go. Here are a few pictures of how my garden grew and the fabulous sunflower farm I visited.

Sunflower Farm I visited-Beaver Dam Farm-100 Year Old Farm Here In Virginia. There Were 30 Acres and 600 Thousand Sunflowers Planted!

I've Never Seen This Many Sunflowers In One Place and I Have Viewed Them All Over Europe!

Now more about my Freida vessel. I came upon a stash of cigar boxes years ago. It's just one of many unusual things that happens to me, and always confirms my clairvoyance. Here is the link in case any of you missed it. It's quite a story. A beautiful shaped box with picture of Mexico inside called to me and I added my Freida waxed image to the top. The image comes from a 6’ fall painting I created of her.

Freida Painting with Freida Sculpture on Left Hand Side

I had some antique needle point (No, I did not sew the needlepoint) with beautiful flowers, and since I know Freida loved flowers, I added it to inside. I left picture of Mexico as is since it goes so well.

Hope you like her. She is 8"x 10" x 2" and is priced at $65. I can ship immediately. Just contact me here and we can go from there. I take Paypal, or personal checks.

DECADENT GARLIC SOUP

DECADENT GARLIC SOUP

Garlic Soup With Garlic Keepers

I tried to come up with an appropriate name for the garlic soup that was served to me last week by a chef friend of mine. Chef Stratton hosts small dinner gatherings about every 2 months in his home for all of us who are fortunate enough to attend. The adjectives I considered were, scrumptious, delectable, luscious, delicious, yummy, pungent, extravagant, luxurious and the list goes on and on. I finally decided that the soup is richly decadent. Perfect name for it; Decadent Garlic Soup. I've printed the recipe below, with permission from Stratton. He says he doesn't remember how he came up with it but if I know him, it was from plenty of experimentation.

I have 2 of my garlic keepers for sale. Number 1 is very ornate. She looks sort of like a mosaic with her green trade beads. I have price her at $28. She is 3”wide by 3” deep by 4 1/2” high and has a green oxide glaze.

Sold. Thank you Mary and Doug

Number 2 is smaller with a dark green glaze with hints of blue and purple. Her beads are a deep purple shade. I have priced her at $22. She is 3” wide by 3” deep by 3” high.

You can e-mail me if you are interested in purchasing either or both of my latest Garlic Keepers. I accept Paypal or personal checks.

Here is the recipe for the soup. Hope you love it as much as I do. You might want to double this recipe because everyone who has a bowl, usually asks for more. It tastes great the first time around and every bit as wonderful the second or third day if left in the fridge.

DECADENT GARLIC SOUP

INGREDIENTS:

4 Whole garlic heads
1 Quart plus 2 cups chicken stock
6 egg yolks
1 Cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 T. Extra virgin olive oil
6 Fresh sage leaves
3 Sprigs of thyme
2 Whole bay leafs
S and P to taste

METHOD:

1. Peel and grate the garlic. I used my food processor.
2. Heat olive oil in large sauce pan. Large enough to hold 3 quarts
3. Add garlic and saute til it becomes golden.
4. Add whole herbs and saute briefly.
5. Add the chicken stock.
6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer partially covered for 30 minutes.
7. Remove whole herbs
8. Whisk together the egg yolks and parmesan cheese until thoroughly mixed.
9. While whisking, slowly drizzle 3 ladles of stock into the egg yolks and cheese.
10. Then, while whisking the stock, slowly stir back in the eggs, cheese and stock. This is called tempering. Must be done slowly so the eggs do not curdle.
11. Continue whisking until it comes to a boil. Remove from the heat and using an emersion blender, puree til smooth.
12. Taste and adjust seasoning with s and p if needed.
13. Garnish with fresh sage leaf in each bowl and a very small drizzle of olive oil. Now..sit back and enjoy the soup and the compliments!

NAMPEYO NATIVE AMERICAN PLANTER

NAMPEYO NATIVE AMERICAN PLANTER

Nestled in the Lobelia and Nasturtium plants

Nampeyo is the name of the Native American Hopi woman who taught me how to create polychrome pottery. I fell in love with the people-the Hopi tribe- who gathered at Isomata in the San Jucinto mountains of California. They traveled from the first mesa in Arizona. It was not only the teaching of making the sacred pots that endeared me to them, but the fact that I was able to listen to the stories the elders told while we waited for the for the sheep dung kiln, that we had built, to burn down and reveal our work. I wrote a story about Bonnie Nampeyo and created a special post about her and our class which you will find here.

Nestled in the Chives

In honor of Nampeyo, I have created this small planter which is 5"wide x8 1/2" high x 4"deep. I used stoneware clay which was fired to a high temperature so that she can remain outside all summer. I used some turquoise for embellishment. She is just $38. To purchase, please e-mail me and we can go from there. I prefer Paypal or a personal check.

Close-Up

NAMPEYO

In the village of Pollaca, Nampeyo hand sculpts the clay that she gathered from the ancient archeological site of Sikyatki. With Yucca brush in steady hand, she paints the same designs that were handed down from one generation of women to the next.

She works from sunrise til sunset so that she will have enough pots ready for the dung sheep firing that is the traditional kiln used by her people. Her life is not easy but she would have it no other way..for her’s is the life of the Hopi Indian.

RENAISSANCE WOMAN AND QUEEN ANN'S LACE CRACKLED PLANTERS

RENASSIANCE WOMAN
AND
QUEEN ANN'S LACE CRACKLE PLANTERS

Full Picture of Renaissance Woman

Sold. Thank you Elsie!

I've been experimenting recently with crackle glaze for some of my sculptures. I could visualize my planters all crackled and looking as though they were dredged from antiquity. (I mistakenly said eternity on the video but I guess either could be right) For Renaissance Woman, the larger of the planters, I used "Fools Gold" which reputedly brings money to the holder. Hopefully it will bring fortune to whoever purchases her. I also used an intricately carved wooden piece for forehead, crystals and an antique sphere for the crown. She is 8”w by x6”D and approx 15” high. I have priced her at $110. I'm including the story I wrote for her below.

Close-Up of Face

The smaller of the two planters I have named Queen Ann's Lace. Along with the crackled glaze over stoneware clay with 2 firings, she includes an old bronze colored beaded headpiece. I also found a lovely golden angelic face with purple dew drop for the center. She is 5”w by x 4”d by 11”high and priced at $78. Her story is also shown below.

You can purchase either planter from me directly by contacting my e-mail. I accept paypal and checks.

Usually my planters can be kept outside all winter because they have been fired to a high temp but in the case of the crackle planters, since I've used delicate embellishments like the beadwork, it is best to display inside. I just couldn't resist using that beautiful beadwork on her though.

RENAISSANCE WOMAN

She wore a cloak sewn by nature and she was driven by an unquenchable thirst for unity. She was a renaissance woman..with an eye to the future and a tear for the past.

QUEEN ANN'S LACE

She is inspired by angels. They whisper to her of another day. A day when she had roses for tea for a long days reverie. Crystal and lace, heirloom flacons and a porcelin smile. Her pale beauty shows an ambience of that of a romantic visionary, of one who is celebrating purity on the highest level.in a way only she chooses to remember.

GODDESS BURNING BOWL-VESTA

GODDESS BURNING BOWL

VESTA

Full View

Sold. Thank you Angie!

I have named my home Woodloft because I believe anything worth owning is worth naming. The video below was taken in one of my many gardens (I'm obsessed with flowers and water ponds) which I call the labyrinth garden. I hope you enjoy viewing.

I named my burning bowl Vesta which in Roman it means 'guardian of the sacred flames. She has a stern, austere look-as though she holds fast and can conquer any situation in life. She is 4 1/2” w x 4 1/2” deep and 9” high. I created her with stoneware clay which I kiln fired along with the stained glass basin she features. I also used abalone shell and turquoise as embellishments. She is priced at $68. If you would like to purchase Vesta, please just click my e-mail. We can go from there. I prefer Paypal or checks.

Back

The burning bowl is traditionally used as a means to rid oneself of bad habits or annoyances by writing them down on a piece of paper and burning them. Community church has a ceremony held once a year in which a very large burning bowl is used for the entire congregation. I came up with the smaller more personal bowl some time ago. When you are not using your sculpture for doing away with problems, the stained glass basin can be used for incense or the burning of a small candle.

GARLIC!

GARLIC!

4 Goddess Garlic Keepers

Last fall, I decided to try my hand at growing garlic. I grew it once before but was disappointed when my harvest was comprised of the most miniscule cloves of garlic I had ever seen! This time, since the deer, ground hogs, rabbits and other animals seem to eat every vegetable I plant, I decided to plant my garlic in my vegetable garden. After doing a web search and it seems that most animals will stay away from the scent of garlic. I decided to order the most exotic garlic starters I could find. I have Spanish Roja garlic, Italian Lococonia, Maisky , Elephant, Chinese Pink even garlic from Transylvania! (I'll be naming that one-”Dracula's Nemesis.”

Garlic Garden

I used only the best fertilizer-Black Gold- and other organic fertilized soil. Planting took place in October and I was up and down, just like my garlic scapes all winter with worry. The scapes on garlic are only supposed to come up one time in the spring. Because of an extraordinary winter, with temperatures alternating from very warm days of 70 and dropping to the teens, my scapes made an appearance about 5 times. Nowhere have I read about this happening to garlic before.

Scapes

So now, the garlic scapes have been up once again for a few months and supposedly I will be able to harvest in late June, when the stalks start to turn brown. I am so excited about it. If any of my readers have advice for me concerning my garlic, please let me know. I can use all the help I can get.

Garlic Queen Journal

In the meantime, I plan, if I have a large enough harvest, to display and sell my garlic along with my artwork at our Farmer's Market this summer. A friend suggested that I create garlic keepers to sell along with the garlic. After experimentation, I am pleased to offer my original Goddess Garlic Keepers for sale. They are priced at just $28. and are approximately 31/2"x 5"x 31/2" and the purple one is a bit smaller. They all feature one of my bas-relief faces on the cork lid along with some beautiful glazes.
